Did you know that the first bulldozer was adapted from the Holt farm tractors that were used when plowing fields?

In 1923 a farmer named James Cummings and draftsmen named J. Earl McLeod made the first design for what we know as the bulldozer. By the 1920's tracked vehicles were becoming very common, to dig through canals, raise earth dams, and to do most earth moving jobs; these machines were equipped with a thick metal blade out front. With the addition of the power down-force provided by the hydraulic cylinders instead of just the amount of weight in the front; these machines were the preferred machine for small and large contractors alike. It was then that the "bull-grader" was now known as the "bulldozer".
